Fatal Hit-run: Person Killed On Route 80 Overnight, Cops Say

A person was struck and killed in a hit-and-run on Route 80 overnight, and now, authorities say they need help finding the suspect.

An eastbound vehicle hit the person near milepost 59.5 around 2:55 a.m. in Paterson and fled the scene prior to troopers' arrival, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron said.

The victim's identity remains withheld pending an autopsy.

NJSP said the striking vehicle is believed to be a large commercial vehicle or a tractor-trailer.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or the events prior to or following the crash is asked to contact Troop "B" Totowa Station – Detective Bureau at (973)-785-9412. Anonymous tips are welcome.
