Jamaiky Ramos-Nazario, 29, of Clifton hit the gas Friday night when Officer Samuel Arnowitz tried to stop his 2002 Honda Civic in the area of Lexington Avenue and Ackerman Avenue, Lt. Robert Bracken said.
He lost control of the vehicle and struck three others, injuring two motorists who Bracken said sustained injuries that weren't life-threatening, Bracken said.
Depite heavy front-end damage, Ramos-Nazario kept going, the lieutenant said.
The chase continued onto northbound Route 21, then Routes 20 and 80 before Ramos-Nazario exited onto 21st Street in Paterson.
Sgt. Mohammad Droubi and Officer Kevin Berdnik joined the pursuit at that point.
It continued through the city streets before Ramos-Nazario stopped the Honda on Chestnut Street and tried to run, Bracken said.
The officers caught him in a nearby yard and took him into custody after a brief struggle, he said.
A judge ordered Ramos-Nazario held in the Passaic County Jail on charges of eluding, causing injury while eluding, resisting arrest and obstruction.
He also received several summonses for offenses that included driving while suspended and leaving the scene of an accident.
The injured motorists were taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson.
