Lt. Joseph Macaluso was assiting another officer near the Holland Tunnel in Jersey City when a Dodge Ram pickup nearly sideswiped his patrol car and abruptly stopped at a red light at 14th Street and Jersey Avenue, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.

In the open truck bed he spotted the bicycle.

Macaluso pulled over the driver, who had no identification, Pentangelo said.

A DMV check found that Jose Angel Perez-Luna, 31, of Tannsersville, PA had been cited in Virginia for driving without a license.

He then “admitted that he intended to use the bike to commute to his job” after stealing it in Manhattan, Pentangelo said.

Perez-Luna was arrested on charges of receiving stolen property, failing to move over for a marked police vehicle, careless driving, driving while suspended and driving without a license.
