Driver Hospitalized After Fair Lawn Crash Dumps Load Of Lumber
A driver was injured when his truck slammed into a guard rail, dumping a load of lumber near a busy Fair Lawn intersection. The Blue Ridge Lumber driver was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center by a Fair Lawn EMS ambulance following the crash on Plaza Road near Berdan Avenue shortly before 2:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18. A team of co-workers from the Fair Lawn lumber company brought a huge forklift and cleaned up the mess. A heavy-duty wrecker removed the truck. Fair Lawn police are investigating the cause. Boyd A. Water Main Break Opens Gaping Hole Off Route 208
A water main break Friday afternoon closed the entrance and exit ramps at a Route 208 interchange in Fair Lawn. The ramps along northbound Route 208 at Berdan Avenue off Plaza Road were affected after the road buckled under the water pressure, leaving a gaping hole, shortly after lunchtime Sept. 8. No vehicle damage or incidents were reported as a result. However, many residents reported brown water coming out of their taps. Firefighters in Fair Lawn quickly doused a destructive house blaze before noon on Wednesday. No injuries were reported in the Kipp Street fire, which Fair Lawn Fire Chief Jacob Mamo said broke out in the kitchen of a 1½-story home just off Plaza Road near the Berdan Avenue exit off northbound Route 208 shortly after 10:30 a.m. June 21. The 911 call was chilling. A Fair Lawn police dispatcher heard what sounded like gunshots and people crying in the background as a caller claimed that he'd shot his mother and was holding two siblings at knifepoint. Fair Lawn patrol units and tactical officers immediately converged on Roosevelt Place at Berdan Avenue, where the call purportedly originated shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday, April 27. It was fortunate that parked cars -- and not people -- were struck in separate DWI crashes a week and a half apart in Fair Lawn, responders said. Kelbin Cardenes of Paterson was arrested after refusing a roadside sobriety test following a single-car crash on Morlot Avenue near Van Saun Place around 7:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve 2022, Sgt. Distressed Hawthorne Man Disarmed By Fair Lawn Police After Threatening To Kill Dad
An armed and distressed Hawthorne man was subdued by police in Fair Lawn after he threatened to kill his father, authorities said. Officers who responded to a 911 call from the 25-year-old man himself found him holding a knife and a baseball bat on River Road at Berdan Avenue shortly after 2:30 a.m., Fair Lawn Sgt. 'Someone Ran A Light' In Three-Vehicle Fair Lawn Crash
No one was injured in a three-car Fair Lawn crash Monday afternoon, responders said. A Toyota ended up crashing into a tree after colliding with a Chevy that was, in turn, struck from behind by a third vehicle at the corner of Berdan Avenue and Plaza Road around 2:45 p.m. One person complained of a hip injury but declined medical treatment, responders said. A dog led police to the family of a 64-year-old pedestrian who was struck while crossing a Fair Lawn street Wednesday night, authorities said. Both he and the 61-year-old driver of the SUV that hit him in a crosswalk on Berdan Avenue just after 6:30 p.m. were hospitalized, Police Sgt. Brian Metzler said. The pedestrian was reported in critical condition with head and leg injuries in the Intensive Care Unit at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, Metzler said.
