Students and staff from a New Jersey college center have cracked a hot missing persons case from across the country. The Ramapo College of New Jersey's Investigative Genetic Genealogy Center (IGG) worked in collaboration with authorities in St. Louis County, MI, to successfully identify “St. Louis John Doe,” who had been missing since 2021. A decade-long hunt for a serial killer that began after an escort from New Jersey went missing on Long Island has led to the arrest of a midtown Manhattan architect who investigators believe preyed on prostitutes. Rex Heuermann, 59, of Massapequa Park was seized after authorities matched his DNA during a full-scale investigation of what became known as the Gilgo Beach murders. 2020 Homicide Victim Finally Identified: Union County Prosecutors
After three years, the remains of a woman's body found in Elizabeth have been identified, authorities announced on Friday, June 23. In June 2020, the body of 23-year-old Jasmine Featherstone, an Elizabeth resident, was discovered along the railroad tracks in the area of the 300 block of Port Avenue, Union County Prosecutor William Daniel said. An autopsy determined her death to be a homicide. Authorities were able to identify Featherstone using DNA testing, Daniel said. Palisades Park police cracked a pair of cold-case burglaries after the results of a DNA test on a soda can led them to a familiar face from a neighboring town. A New Jersey woman filed a lawsuit against her OBGYN saying he impregnated her with his own sperm in the 1980s when she went in for artificial insemination and found out when her daughter took an online DNA test last year.
