At 3:56 p.m., officers responded to 14th Avenue and Hayes Street and found the injured man, Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda said. The shooting occurred just steps away from New Horizons Charter School.
The man was taken to University Hospital while the shooting remains under investigation, Miranda said.
