Cliffwood Machete Murderer Learns Fate: Prosecutor

A 35-year-old Cliffwood man was sentenced to 50 years in prison on Tuesday, June 10, after being convicted of murdering a Newark man with a machete last year, authorities said.

Terrance Bailey was convicted of murder in the first degree and a weapons charge on Friday, March 21, following a two-week trial, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said.

On Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024,  Bailey and an accomplice chased Daniel Haas Jr. while brandishing a firearm on Cathedral Court in Newark, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens II said.

Bailey and the accomplice caught up with Haas and killed him with a machete-style knife, Stephens said. The accomplice remains at large, authorities said.
