A 30-year-old former police officer and Somerset resident was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Wednesday, Aug. 14 in connection with a fatal crash he caused that killed two people while he was off-duty last summer, authorities said. 31-Year-Old Woman ID'd As Victim Killed In Route 27 Crash
A 31-year-old Franklin Township resident was killed in a crash last week in Central Jersey. Kristen Drayton was identified as the driver of the southbound vehicle that had slammed into a tree on Route 27 near Reler Lane just after 8:05 a.m. on Thursday, May 9 in Franklin Township, Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald said. An elderly pair from Maryland was killed in a crash Tuesday evening, June 13 in Highland Park, authorities said. A Mercedes driven by Abeer Viriani, 34, of Iselin, struck a Subaru occupied by Peter Palmer, 75, of Easton, MD, and Carol Paul, 77, of Easton, MD, around 5:30 p.m. at Route 27 and North 10 Street, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said. A man wanted in several Central Jersey communities was caught on Thursday, March 23, authorities said. Adam Zakaria, 25, of South Brunswick was arrested at about 4 p.m. thanks to tips from the public, police said. Police had circulated Zakaria's photo on Wednesday. A tractor-trailer overturned on Interstate 287 in Middlesex County, halting traffic, authorities said. The crash occurred at about 12:35 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2 on the I-287 northbound ramp to southbound Exit 2 in Edison, the New Jersey Department of Transportation said. All lanes were closed for a couple of hours, 511nj.org reported. The interstate's exit ramp to Route 27 was expected to remain closed until at least 6:30 p.m. for the truck's removal and cleanup, according to a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police. Police are on the lookout for a pair of home invaders who broke into a Central Jersey home and tried to steal a Jeep, MyCentralJersey reports. Woodbridge police received a 9-1-1 call at 6:39 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1 about a burglary attempt on Goodrich Street in Iselin, the outlet said. Bomb Threats At 3 Walmarts In Central Jersey Unfounded
There were bomb threats reported at three Walmart stores in Central Jersey, authorities said. The Monday, July 18 threats came at about 3:30 p.m. at 1126 Route 9 in Old Bridge, at the Edison Walmart on Route 27 and at the East Brunswick Walmart on Route 18. Wawa Opening 2 New Central Jersey Stores, With Gas Pumps
Wawa is opening two more Central Jersey locations this week. The newest stores, with gas pumps, are in Edison and North Brunswick, the retail chain announced on its website.
