Patrick Marriner, 32, was arrested shortly before 7 a.m. at Broadway Bagels. Marriner was holding a pair of scissors and refused to drop them when ordered to do so, then went into a “fighting stance” when told he was under arrest before he was safely taken into custody, police said.

Police had been looking for Marriner after he was spotted on security video assaulting a clerk at a convenience store Monday, the police department said in a statement. The clerk at the store, located at 732 Ave. E, told police Marriner entered Tuesday afternoon and asked for a pack of cigarettes but refused to pay. The clerk pepper-sprayed Marriner, who ran from the store. The woman suffered a small cut.

Marriner has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.
