A Newark man was arrested early Friday morning, Dec. 13, after crashing his vehicle into a sign and later ramming a police K9 vehicle in Maywood, police said.
The incident unfolded around 1:07 a.m. when Maywood officer John Burns spotted a vehicle at the intersection of Maywood Avenue and Lenox Avenue with its driver, Florencio Hernandez-Rivera, asleep at the wheel, the department said.

On Monday, Nov. 11 at 6:45 a.m., a man walking southbound on McWhorter Street near Ferry Street was approached by a man who exited a red Hyundai Sonata and demanded his belongings at gunpoint, Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda said.
