A Pakistani couple from North Bergen is opening a Halal chicken restaurant in Morris County. Usman Chaudhry and Amena Chaudhri will hold a grand opening ceremony for Namkeen Hot Chicken in Chatham on Oct. 30. "My husband's life goal was to open up his own restaurant, and we decided to take this step very spontaneously," Amena told Daily Voice. The Summit community is mourning the loss of high school senior Daniel Pratt Tavit, who died on Sept. 20. He was 18. Born in New York City, Tavit was raised in Summit, his obituary says. A lifelong soccer fan, Tavit had played for two years on his school’s team as well as private club teams such as Summit Hot Spurs, Center Court FC, and the NJ Stallions in Clifton. Tavit also loved music and expressed himself through saxophone and drum performances in local music groups, according to his obituary. The number of coronavirus cases linked to a Morris County Labor Day party has nearly doubled, township officials said. At least eight confirmed COVID-19 cases are linked to the Chatham Borough party, and as of Wednesday, another nine new cases in the Chathams were confirmed, Township Mayor Michael Kelly said. The new cases brought the six-day total to 21, he said. Chatham high schoolers were switched to remote learning after 12 of them had tested positive for the virus. Police in Chatham are searching for leads in three home burglaries that occurred over the weekend, authorities said. Homes on Highland Avenue, Hall Road and Glenmere Drive were entered and burglarized by an unknown suspect early Sunday morning, Chatham Police said. The suspect entered two of the homes through a back sliding door that had been left unlocked, authorities said. Hayley Tyrone of Chatham died on Aug. 31. She was 28 years old. Born and raised in Summit and attended Union Count College, her obituary says. She had been living in Chatham at the time of her death and working at Five Guys in Madison. Hayley was remembered as an animal lover. She bonded with horses at a young age and died alongside her beloved dog, Raven. She is survived by her parents, Michael Tyrone and Denise Beyer; her sister, Cassidy; along with her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. The Morris County community is mourning the loss of local mom and engineering industry pioneer Joan Susan Jennings. Jennings, 58, died after a long battle with cancer on August 4, her obituary says. A resident of Chatham, Jennings graduated from Scotch Plains Fanwood High School in 1980 and earned an engineering degree from Lafayette College in 1984, where she was one of the few female engineering majors in her class. A 15-year-old car thief from Newark led Franklin Lakes police on a chase on Route 287 in one of two vehicles stolen overnight from the same borough home. These NJ ShopRite Stores Imposing Customer Limit Amid Coronavirus Spread
More than two dozen New Jersey ShopRite stores have implemented customer limits in an effort to stop the spread of coronavirus. The maximum number of customers will be roughly 30 percent of the store’s regular maximum occupancy, ShopRite said in a statement. A security guard will be stationed at entrances and exits to track the number of customers coming in and out. Only one entrance per store will remain open. North Jersey celebrity chef Carl Ruiz was found dead in his apartment Sunday morning, according to recent reports. Friends say the 44-year-old suffered a heart attack in his sleep.
