Two police officers and at least two workers at a trucking firm in Middlesex County were hospitalized after a trailer thought to be filled with nitric acid leaked, NJ Advance Media reported. First responders including the county's hazardous materials team were called to Jimmy’s Trucking at 140 South Ave. in South Plainfield when the chemical spill was found at about 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17, local police said. More than 60,000 homeowners may be eligible to sue a Central Jersey water company over high levels of "forever chemicals" found in their water, NJ Advance Media reported. Middlesex Water customers in Woodbridge, Clark, Metuchen, South Plainfield, Carteret, and Edison can join a class action lawsuit after high levels of Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOAs) were detected at a South Plainfield treatment plant, the outlet said. A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in a Central Jersey Shop Rite parking lot, according to developing and unconfirmed reports. The crash occurred before 7 p.m. at 3600 Park Ave. in South Plainfield, initial reports said. Police had requested a medical helicopter for an airlift to an area hospital. CVS Health has closed one of its New Jersey stores as part of a broader plan to shutter 900 stores by 2024. An Elizabeth fugitive wanted for robbing a bank and two convenience stores in New Jersey at gunpoint was captured following a high-speed stolen car chase on Route 80 in Nebraska, federal authorities said Friday. A New Jersey water company warned customers of potentially toxic chemicals in the drinking water Monday. The level of Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA) in the water of all its customers in Carteret, Clark, Edison, Metuchen, South Plainfield and Woodbridge had exceeded acceptable regulatory standards, Middlesex Water Company said in a notice. The death toll caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida that tore through New Jersey Wednesday had climbed to 23 as of Thursday afternoon, Gov. Phil Murphy said at a press conference. NJ Football Player Shot Dead On Long Island Remembered As Leader On & Off The Field
A 29-year-old Middlesex County man was shot and killed outside of a Long Island home over the weekend, authorities said. Danie Philistin, of South Plainfield, was pronounced dead at the West Babylon home on Gordon Avenue around 11:30 p.m. Saturday July 17, Suffolk County police said.
