The name or age of the motorcycle rider had not been released by police.
The crash occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20, on Route 1 northbound, Edison police said.
The motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed and ultimately got trapped under a vehicle stopped in traffic, according to Edison Police Chief Thomas Bryan.
"The cyclist dismounted from the motorcycle just prior to striking the vehicle and came to rest underneath the vehicle with the motorcycle striking him," Bryan said on Thursday, Sept. 21.
No charges have been filed against the driver of the vehicle stopped in traffic, the chief said.
All lanes of Route 1 were closed for several hours during an investigation.
