If a planned massive convoy of trucks turns into mostly cars, SUVs and pickups honking clown horns, does it make a sound? Parts of Route 17 were briefly closed as the North Jersey leg of a "freedom" convoy rolled through the area Saturday, March 5, as part of a national protest headed to the nation's capital. Throngs of supporters lined up along the highway and stationed on overpasses. Some waved flags or gave the thumbs up with one hand and held a cellphone in the other, recording the speedy procession. Pre-Dawn Blaze Destroys Fire Safety Business, Apartments In Garfield
Flames blew through the roof and upper-floor windows of a Garfield building that houses a fire safety business and apartments, authorities said. First-responding police officers got four tenants of apartments above Firematic Safety Equipment out before part of a roof and stairwell collapsed in the two-story River Drive building shortly after 4:30 a.m., Police Capt. UPDATE: Two young children were being cared for after authorities found their parents dead in their Rochelle Park home on Saturday. The bodies of Mandy Staples, 35, and her ex-husband Marcos Gagnon, 43, who'd been living in Atlantic County, were found on the second floor of their Schlosser Drive home around 11 a.m., Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. The children -- ages 5 and 6 -- were found unharmed in the home and were being cared for, responders said. Musella said the causes of death had "not yet been determined" and that the incident "appears to be isolated." A friend had …
