The New Haven-bound train became disabled due to a downed wire at about 8:45 p.m. just past the Westport/Saugatuck station, according to @bmunroe on Twitter. The train reportedly had no power and no heat while it was stuck on the tracks in the frigid cold.
The disabled train was the 7:34 p.m. train out of Grand Central Terminal and headed to New Haven, according to @CalU90 on Twitter.
In a Tweet at about 9:30 p.m., @Armen914 said, "@MetroNorth any updates on this train that has a broken wire? Where's the rescue train?"
Metro-North responded via Twitter with, "Rescue train is on the way, should arrive shortly."
But @bmunroe Tweeted that the passengers were stuck in the cold -- outdoor temperatures were in the single digits -- for more than two hours before the rescue train arrived.
All the passengers were apparently transferred to the second train by 11 p.m. Wednesday and continued on their way toward New Haven.
At about 11:30 p.m., @bmunroe Tweeted, "Rescue train sucks, too. Frozen doors that don't open. Had to skip greens farm because we weren't on a track with platform."
He described the commuters are "bored and cold."
The 7:34 p.m. train had been scheduled to arrive in New Haven at 9:32 p.m. It finally arrived just after midnight.
