ORIGINAL REPORT:

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – The winter storm that arrived in the area overnight has had a major impact on travel Wednesday morning.

Interstate 84 is closed in New York State from the Connecticut border to the Pennsylvania border.

Metro-North is experiencing system wide delays of up to 30 minutes on the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven lines.

Traffic was reported to be very light on main roadways throughout Westchester during the morning commute.  Accidents were reported on I-287 near the junction of I-87 and the Saw Mill River Parkway near Yonkers Avenue.

The I-84 closure, until further notice, was ordered by Gov. Andrew Cuomo and includes both passenger and commercial vehicles. Any cars on the road will be ticketed.

“I urge all New Yorkers to stay off the roads and monitor news and weather reports throughout the day for updates,” Cuomo said in a statement.

The start of Bee-Line and Paratransit service in Westchester is delayed because of the treacherous road conditions. Service is expected to resume once road conditions become safe.

Metro-North was operating on a regular schedule but reduced by about 18 percent with train combinations for the morning peak.

Riders are advised to listen for announcements at the stations.

Driving conditions are hazardous throughout Westchester County and nearly all school districts are closed, with most school districts announcing closures on Tuesday in advance of the arrival of the storm.

The Greenburgh Department of Public Works pulled a New York State Department of Transportation plow truck out of a ditch after the truck skidded Wednesday Morning.

A mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain has been falling heavily in most of central and southern Westchester, coating the up to 9 inches of snow that fell Monday, since the pre-dawn hours. As the day goes on, the changeover to sleet and freezing rain will continue to move north.
