YORKTOWN, N.Y. --  More than 100 people gathered in Yorktown to urge Terrence Murphy to support the New York Healthcare Act Friday.

The group, made up of 16 activist groups in Murphy's district, held a die-in to show what would happen if the bill was not passed and New Yorkers did not have access to adequate heath care.

The bill, a single-player plan. has passed the Assembly for three straight years but has failed to get out of committee in the Senate.

Marianna Stout, who helped organize the protest, said she is concerned about what will happen if the Affordable Care Act is repealed and replaced by the American Health Care Act. She said Murphy's staff has told her he does not have a position on the bill.

"Pre-existing conditions are one of the main reasons people are terrified that they will lose affordable healthcare," Stout said.

Michael Jefferson, a spokesman for Sen. Murphy, said the senator is focused on the remaining 48 hours left in legislative session.

"Senator Murphy is working on a wide-range of legislation, including bills that will protect our children, our seniors and our veterans, as well as methods to safeguard current property taxes," Jefferson said. "I think the vast majority of his constituents would consider his efforts time well spent."
