A Governor Rob Astorino could spell the end of the Mario Cuomo Bridge.

In a radio interview Wednesday, Astorino, the Westchester County Executive, said if he was elected governor, he would support a measure reversing the naming of the new Tappan Zee Bridge after the former governor. Astorino would support the bridge reverting back to its current name, after Malcom Wilson, a former governor and Yonkers native.
The state legislature approved the new name last month.
Astorino ran unsuccessfully against Cuomo's son current Governor Andrew Cuomo and is considering challenging Cuomo again in 2018.Astorino had previously called the decision to name the bridge after Mario Cuomo, "simply outrageous."
"Governor Wilson lived in Westchester and should not have his name stripped from the Tappan Zee Bridge to satisfy Andrew Cuomo’s ego," Astorino said. "Mario Cuomo has no connection whatsoever to Westchester or Rockland."
Cuomo said the idea first came from outgoing Assemblyman Denny Farrell. Cuomo said critics should put aside the "baloney" politics.
"He was a great public official," Cuomo said of his father.
Astorino said it would be more appropriate to name something in Queens after Cuomo, where he lived and raised his family.
