A man who threatened to kill a police officer and then took police on a chase also called 911 to tell them he intended to jump off the Newburgh/Beacon Bridge.

William A. Pascal, 45, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, was arrested on Saturday, June 8, following a sequence of events that ended at the Newburgh/Beacon Bridge, said Town of Poughkeepsie Police, Capt. Kevin Faber.

The incident began around 11:50 p.m. when a town of Poughkeepsie Police officer stopped Pascal for an equipment violation on Main Street.

When the officer approached the vehicle, the recognized Pascal and knew that he was wanted for having a suspended license and had an active federal probation warrant, Faber said.

As the officer attempted to place Pascal under arrest, he pulled away and verbally threatened to kill the officer with a firearm that said was in his possession.

Pascal jumped back in the car and drove through numerous jurisdictions, while at the same time call 911 to say that he intended to harm himself and jump off the Newburgh/Beacon Bridge, Faber added.

Pascal eventually stopped his vehicle on the bridge where he was taken into custody by assisting officers. No firearm was found.

He was remanded without bail to the Dutchess County Jail on numerous charges including unlawful fleeing from police, reckless endangerment, menacing, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, driving without a license, and numerous traffic violations.
