Police: Yorktown Man Charged After Unleashed German Shepherd Bites Dog

A man is facing charges after police say he allowed his dog to run at large in Northern Westchester, which resulted in a dog bite.

Yorktown Police say Ernesto Vargas, 50, of Yorktown was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 18 after he allegedly allowed his dog to run at large in the area of Frost Road.

Police say they received a call from a resident stating that a dog was running at large in the area on Friday, Aug. 23 around 6 p.m.

Further investigation revealed that a brown- and black-colored German Shepherd, found to be owned by Vargas, was running off-leash on Frost Road, resulting in a bite to the resident’s dog.

Vargas was charged with allowing a dog to run at large, a violation of the Yorktown Town Code, and unlicensed dog, a violation of the Agriculture and Markets Law.

Vargas was ticketed and is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Court on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
