YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Yorktown Daily Voice accepts signed and original letters to the editor up to 350 words. To submit your letter, email

Supervisor Grace likes to say that "Yorktown is a big town with a small town feel". From the resident's perspective it seems that "Yorktown is a big town starting to experience big city problems". Life in Yorktown now includes urban sprawl, traffic congestion, car break-ins, more concrete with less trees and wetlands, abandoned storefronts, and apartment buildings springing up on residential streets.

To further the 'big city feel, ambitious politicians push their own agendas which often are in opposition to Yorktown resident's quality of life concerns. Who are these seemingly tone-deaf politicians listening to and for whose benefit if not the taxpayer? Where else but in Yorktown can a taxpayer go to Town Hall for help with a problem, have Supervisor Grace give his assurances that he'll look into the matter then wind up going up against Mr. Grace in court. So ironic that Supervisor Grace was reportedly covertly hired as the attorney for the very same company the taxpayer asked for his help with. Talk about divided loyalties. Was Mr. Grace helping the taxpayer, his client or himself? Don't lawyers have ethical rules against this sort of thing? To add insult to injury, when the news of his legal moon lighting became public Supervisor Grace reportedly was quoted as calling the taxpayer who asked for his help a "dirt-bag". Sounds exactly like what a 'big city' politician would think and say. Is name calling and showing disdain for the taxpayers and their concerns at public meetings the best that we can expect from our current elected officials? We need to vote for kind of progress that benefits all and not just the interest of a chosen few and the politically well connected. If left unchecked our current politicians will continue to morph the Town of Yorktown into "the City of Yorktown" complete with property devaluation, political baggage and all the accompanying problems and blemishes of city living.
