College's Annual 'President's Forum' Discussed The State Of The Nation

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The annual President’s Forum, held on Westchester Community College's Valhalla campus, took place on Nov. 12. The public discussion, which focused on issues such as the media, foreign affairs, the economy and education, was held to raise money for a good cause.

In the past, the President's Forum has featured prominent guests such as Bill Clinton, secretaries of state, Henry Kissinger and Madeleine Albright and journalists such as Paul Krugman and Paul Gigot. The funds raised support Westchester Community College's Scholarship and Program Fund.

This year, the President’s Forum, entitled United or Divided: One Year Later, focused on the state of the nation since the 2016 presidential election. The forum's panel of journalists examined the new administration and Congress, discussing what has and hasn't been accomplished since the new administration has taken over.

The two-hour panel discussion was moderated by Lester Crystal, a longtime executive producer for PBS NewsHour. This year's panelists included Ari Fleisher, former White House press secretary and spokesperson for President George W. Bush, Ruth Marcus, columnist for The Washington Post and David Sanger, national security correspondent for The New York Times. Sanger has been a member of two teams that have won the Pulitzer Prize.

The President’s Forum, a fundraising event for student scholarships and institutional development, has been presented by the college’s Foundation for the past 31 years. This year's forum raised over $65,000 for Westchester Community College's Scholarship and Program Fund.
