Such was the takeaway from The Professional Women of Putnam (PWP) "Meet the Media" panel, held Thursday, April 20 at  Ramiros 954 in Mahopac.

The event included Virginia Califano of the Putnam County News & Recorder, Kacey Morabito Grean of 100.7 WHUD and Jeanne Muchnick, Features Editor of Daily Voice and was moderated by Lisa Kaslyn of Prosper Communications.

The bottom line, agreed the journalists, is that if you have a newsworthy story or an interesting angle, the local media want to hear it. Though most of the women on the panel agreed email -- rather than a phone call -- is best.

The three also discussed the best ways to grab the media's attention and what they look for in story pitches.

PWP, run by Founder Jamie Lauridsen Imperati, encourages women from a variety of professions and trades to connect and support each other in a non-competitive environment. Approximately 30 women were at the Thursday night event.
