Charles J. Newman Company cut the ribbon on its new location at 906 South Street.

“I don't remember a ribbon-cutting here where we've had so many people,” said Mayor Frank Catalina. We appreciate everyone coming out here and supporting our businesses,” said Mayor Catalina. “When they make a significant investment in Peekskill, we like to welcome them with open arms.”

The office features photos of historic Peekskill, which County Legislator John Testa linked to a mini-museum.

Previously, Newman and his wife, Carol, had their business based in Hawthorne. Newman is the 3rd generation of his family to have a business in Peekskill. His grandfather founded Paraco Gas Corp. in Peekskill in 1947.

"I wanted to be in Peekskill for a very long time," Newman, who lives in Yorktown, said. “I’ve been heavily involved in Peekskill community my whole life but haven’t had my home or business here until now.

As a five-year-old, Newman ran errands for his dad Ben, pounding the Peekskill pavement between Paraco and neighboring downtown shopkeepers.

“Peekskill was like Mayberry to me, where you knew everyone,” Newman said. “It still has a small-town feel.”
