Saunders Football Bounces Rival Yonkers, 28-0

YONKERS, N.Y. — Francisco Wilson-King scored twice in the first half and quarterback Kristian Prenga threw for one touchdown and ran for another Saturday to lead Saunders in a 28-0 victory over rival Yonkers High.

"We are trying to be a passing team as well as a running team, so defense can't key on Francisco," Prenga said. "The next two teams we play are good. We have to play better each week."

The Blue Devils raised their record to 4-1, keeping their hopes alive for a Section 1 postseason playoff spot. Yonkers fell to 0-5.

The win marked the first time Saunders has won four games in more than a decade.

Wilson-King, who has 10 touchdowns and more than 750 rushing yards this season, rolled up 140 Saturday and scored from 54 and 3 yards out in the first half as the Blue Devils took a 21-0 halftime lead.

"Defenses are keying on me a little more, so it's good for us to pass the ball and have other guys who run the ball well," Wilson-King said. "We can always improve our blocking and make less mistakes to get better."

Yonkers played well in spots but could not get closer than inside the Saunders 30-yard line.

"Right now it's not so much about winning and losing as it is building a good team," Yonkers lineman Vinny DiPaola said. "We have to block better and make plays, but we always play hard."

Prenga's first-quarter touchdown pass was a 64-yard catch-and-run by receiver Basel Abumallouh that gave the Devils a 12-0 lead. Prenga scored on a 5-yard quarterback keeper for the game's final score.

Dabney Wesley, Chris Tran, Joe Rabadi, Justin Vargas, Wilson-King, Keron Phillip, Eric Mfwodo and Nick Lugo led the defense in the team's first shutout of the season.

Saunders hosts Spring Valley  at 1:30 p.m Saturday for Homecoming, while Yonkers visits Hendrick Hudson at 5 p.m.
