Yonkers Tips Their Hats to Gorton High School's Class of 2015

YONKERS, N. Y. —  The graduating class from Yonkers' Gorton High School was thrilled to finally be apart of the "Class of 2015." 

Timothy Liu and Sophia Wu were excited after Timothy received medals for smart scholar, National Arts Society, Medical Gold Cord Award and also for being a member of the National Honor Society.

Donnashia Flamer and Simone Brown both will attend Westchester Community College to study culinary arts to become pastry chefs and hope to open up their own shop some day.

Cousins David Lopez (Gorton High School)  and Josias Cruz (Lincoln High School) are excited about their future. Both will be going to Westchester Community College; Lopez to study nursing and Cruz to study business.

Crystal Brower will be attending the Borough of Manhattan Community College in the fall to study business management. She would like to become a stock manager.

Students came out of the Westchester County Center smiling while wearing their school colors of green and white.

Sophia Wu stated she has lived in the Yonkers school district for 22 years and all three of her sons graduated from the Yonkers Public Schools.

" I am very happy with the Yonkers Public Schools. They do a good job with a limited budget, " she said. Wu added one of her sons graduated from Saunders High School and the other two from Gorton High School, one of which is Timothy Lin, who will be attending City College in the fall to study to be a physician.

Kiara Ray was ecstatic after graduating from Gorton High School.

"I am very grateful and hopeful," Ray said.

Kira Ray, her mother, said she is so very happy for her daughter.

"I picked Gorton High School for my daughter to go to because she is visually impaired and Gorton has great teachers which were able to help my daughter with her disability, which is a plus," Kira Ray said.

Ray said Kiara has been on a long journey with ups and downs and challenges but she worked hard and this is the end result. Kiara said she is looking forward to attending Westchester Community College in the fall and plans to become a social worker. 

Arisel Rodriguez will be attending Westchester Community College in the fall and would like to become an interior designer.

"I have so many emotions all mixed together. I am happy that I am stepping into adulthood. I have demonstrated to those who didn't think that I could do it that I did it," Rodriguez said.
