YONKERS, N.Y. -- Yonkers students Lisette Garcia and Diana Ordonez Perez are entering the Intel Science Talent Search.
The two Lincoln High School Science Research Academy seniors submitted the papers to Intel, which is one of the most prestigious science competitions. The papers are the culmination of four years in a lab at Albert Einstein School of Medicine. Lincoln's Dr. Dean Saghafi served as the students' mentor.
Both students conducted research into public health concerns. Garcia submitted Creation of Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2 Glycoprotein Knockout Mutants and Ordonez Perez submitted Creation of M. Tuberculosis Mutants using Specialized Transducing Mycobacteriophages as a Possible Development for an Improved Vaccine Strain.
Intel is scheduled to announce the semi-finalists on Jan. 8, 2014.
