YONKERS, N.Y. -- Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano announced Tuesday, Jan. 21, that he has appointed former Westchester County Board of Legislators Chairman Ken Jenkins as the new president/chief executive officer of the Yonkers Industrial Development Agency.

Jenkins will take over the position starting Monday, Jan. 27. Jenkins has represented the City of Yonkers on the Westchester County Board of Legislators since 2007. Jenkins has worked in real estate sales over the last 10 years in Yonkers, most recently with ERA Reality Services, city officials said.

Jenkins will be paid $60,000 on top of his annual salary $49,200 as a county legislator, LoHud.com reported.

“I am pleased to appoint Ken as the leader of the Yonkers IDA,” said Spano who chairs the IDA. “Ken has the skill set and qualifications to build upon the great momentum the IDA has garnered in the last two years. A long-time Yonkers resident, his in-depth knowledge of the City combined with his realty expertise will assist Ken in continuing our progress to create jobs and take development efforts in Yonkers to the next level.”

Jenkins said he was honored with the appointment.

"Under the mayor’s leadership, there’s a tremendous amount of momentum and energy in the City, and I hope to add to Yonkers’ success in attracting new development and creating new jobs," Jenkins said.

Jenkins replaces Melvina Carter, who served as the YIDA president/CEO since 2012.
