The one-man crime spree began on Thursday, March 16 around 3:45 p.m., when police responded to a convenience store in New Rochelle at 683 Main St. that had been robbed.
Upon arriving at the store, police found that the clerk had been severely assaulted and stabbed, according to New Rochelle Police. Soon after this, officers then received a call that a pedestrian had been mugged a block away from the store on Woodland Avenue just off Main Street, and had cash stolen from them.
Authorities then quickly headed to the area and spotted the suspect running away. This prompted a foot chase through several backyards in the Residence Park neighborhood of New Rochelle's Southside.
Eventually, the suspect broke into a home on Laurel Street that was occupied by a woman and her young children in order to hide. Luckily, the woman was able to keep the suspect calm and secretly messaged her neighbor to call the police, alerting them to the man's presence in the residence.
Soon after, authorities arrived and used a taser-like device against the suspect, which allowed them to finally arrest him without further incident, police said.
The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Suffolk County resident Michael Bagley, of Coram, faces the following charges:
- First-degree robbery;
- Third-degree robbery;
- Second-degree assault;
- First-degree unlawful imprisonment;
- Second-degree burglary;
- Third-degree criminal mischief.
The store clerk who was assaulted at the convenience store was later taken to a local hospital, where she is now in serious, but stable condition.
