Shortly before 3 a.m. on Friday, March 8, officers from the Yonkers Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Bruce Avenue and Radford Street in Yonkers, where there were reports of a man who had been hit by a car.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found 23-year-old Yonkers resident Jesus Angel Villaneuva, who was down in the roadway with serious injuries. Villaneuva was treated at the scene and transported to a local trauma center for treatment, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation into the fatal hit-and-run led to detectives interviewing subjects and witnesses, reviewing surveillance video, and processing forensic evidence. Police said that the investigation determined that Villaneuva was hit by a gray four-door passenger sedan near the intersection. The driver then took off without stopping.

In response, the Yonkers Police Department initially offered a $500 reward for information. On Tuesday, in conjunction with Villaneuva’s family, officials announced that the reward has been tripled, to $1,500 for information that leads to the arrest of the driver.

Yonkers Det. Sgt. Dean Politopoulos said that detectives are “actively working to identify the registration, the driver and occupants of the vehicle. No arrests have been made, though the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact the Yonkers Police Department Detective Division by calling (914) 377-7724 or texting the word “YPD” plus the tip to 847411.
