2nd Victim Dies After Apartment Fire In Yonkers

A second person succumbed to their injuries after a fire severely damaged an apartment building in Westchester County.

A 68-year-old man died on the night of Sunday, Jan. 22, days after a fire tore through his apartment building in Yonkers at 21 Mulberry St. on Thursday, Jan. 19, according to Yonkers Police Public Information Officer Dean Politopoulos. 

The man's 85-year-old mother was also killed in the blaze. Both mother and son were rescued from the building and taken to a local hospital, but later died from their injuries. 

Their identities have not yet been released by police. 

Many displaced residents of the apartment building were taken to The Westchester School, where they were given help by the Red Cross and the city's Office of Emergency Management.
