Daniel Goldberg, 33, Roosevelt High School Football Champion

YONKERS, N.Y. - Daniel Goldberg, a Yonkers resident who was a member of the 1996 Roosevelt High School State Championship football team, died suddenly Friday at age 33.

Goldberg, who was employed by the City of Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation, was a lineman who played alongside his twin brother David on the only Yonkers high school football team to win a state title. Goldberg was Godfather to Amanda Reyes Goldberg and Nianna Rae Degree and he was the Godson of longtime Roosevelt High School football coach Tony DeMatteo (now at Somers High School). He is survived by his parents, Carmen Gomez-Goldberg, Harvey Goldberg, and Jose Reyes; his twin sons, Daniel and David Reyes Goldberg, his sisters, Mai Reyes Vanderpool, Nancy Reyes, and Elena Goldberg Velazquez, and his twin brother David Reyes Goldberg, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Friends may call on Tuesday from 2-9 p.m at the Sinatra Memorial Home, 601 Yonkers Ave, Yonkers. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday at St. Peter's Church, Yonkers at 10 a.m. Interment to follow.
