YONKERS, N.Y. - Officials in Yonkers have instituted a strict Halloween curfew for children in the city under the age of 16.

The Yonkers Police Department announced on Wednesday that “in order to provide for a safe and enjoyable holiday,” they will be enforcing the curfew on Halloween night, Tuesday, Oct. 31.

As part of the curfew, children under the age of 11 must be home by 10 p.m. A half hour later, 12 and 13 year olds must be inside, and by 11 p.m., all children and teenagers under 16 must be inside unless accompanied by a parent.

“Halloween is a fun holiday meant to be enjoyed by all, which is why we are taking a proactive approach in providing a safe Halloween for our communities,” Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano said. “In addition to the curfew, we encourage parents to be mindful of their children’s activities on Tuesday so our trick-or-treaters have a happy and safe Halloween this year.”

Police caution that violators of the curfew will be taken to the nearest Yonkers Police Precinct and a parent will be notified.

“We are asking for parents to help make this Halloween a safe and enjoyable day for all involved,” Yonkers Police Commissioner Charles Gardner added. “Please know where your children are and make sure that they are home by the designated times of the curfew.”
