YONKERS, N.Y. -- Crowds at the Yonkers Brewery on Sunday, April 10, had a hair-razing experience watching local police officers and dozens of others have their heads shaved for charity, according to a report by lohud.com.
The Yonkers Police Benevolent Association, which has sponsored the annual event for six years, has raised more than $500,000 so far for St. Baldrick’s, a foundation that funds childhood cancer research, according to an earlier lohud.com report.
It wasn’t just the guys who were sacrificing their looks for a good cause; Jacqueline Estevez, Yonkers’ first female detective, let the stylists shear off eight inches of her dark tresses, the lohud.com article said.
Estevez’s hair will be donated to an organization that makes wigs for children who have lost theirs during cancer treatment, lohud reported.
