YONKERS, N.Y. --  A fight between several people Thursday ended up with one person being stabbed and another firing shots before being caught by Yonkers Police officers, according to the Yonkers police.

The incident occurred around 6 p.m. after officers saw two men run into a delicatessen at 174 Yonkers Ave., said Dean Politopoulos, spokesman for the Yonkers Police Dept.

Officers went inside to investigate and interrupted a stabbing in progress – one man, identified as Nasir Brown, 18, of Yonkers, was seen standing over and assaulting a second man, identified as Spencer Adams, 26, of Mount Vernon, Politopoulos said.

As officers intervened, they discovered that Adams was in possession of a loaded handgun. At the same time, the Yonkers Police Department received 911 calls of a possible shooting incident in the vicinity Porach Street and Walnut Street, a short distance from the delicatessen, he added.

Multiple officers from the 3rd and 4th Patrol Precincts and Emergency Service Unit responded to both locations and began canvassing the area for additional suspects and witnesses. Subsequent investigation yielded that several individuals were engaged in a dispute in the area of 5 Porach St., where it is alleged that Adams fired a shot from the recovered handgun and attempted to flee; several males, including Brown, gave chase and caught up with Adams at the delicatessen where police intervened, Politopoulos said.

Detectives from the Major Case Squad and Crime Scene Unit are continuing to actively investigate this incident – interviewing witnesses and potential persons of interest, canvassing for surveillance video and processing forensic evidence. The recovered handgun is described as .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol.

Adams was taken to an area hospital where he is currently being treated for a non-life threatening stab wound to his right torso.

Adams was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment.

Brown is being held on assault charges.

“Both defendants in this incident were apprehended and have criminal charges pending due to the exceptional police work of the members of our Patrol force and Detective Division, and serve as a reminder that if individuals choose to commit acts of violence and carry illegal weapons in our City, the Yonkers Police Department will arrest you and deliver you to the Criminal Justice System,” said Yonkers Police Commissioner Gardner.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Yonkers Police Detective Division at 914-377-7724, all calls will remain confidential.
