YONKERS, N.Y.-- Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano unveiled the new 18-by-54-foot fishing pier at ribbon cutting ceremony at JFK Marina and Park on Thursday.
Spano is encouraging residents to fish at the pier during the last two months of the season.
“The waterfront is our city’s greatest asset,” Spano said in a statement. “With this new fishing pier at JFK Marina, Yonkers residents have yet another way to enjoy the 4.5 miles of Hudson River waterfront in our city.”
The City invested $1.8 million to build the pier and restore the shoreline at the marina, which has been in need of repair for decades.
Spano said the City will continue to invest in JFK Marina. Under a second and third phase of the project, the Mayor plans to build two additional fishing piers.
The fishing pier and boat launch at JFK Marina are open to the public from dawn to dusk, seven days a week from May 1 to Oct. 31.
