“Yonkers is leading New York in moving forward a sustainability agenda that is not just saving energy and our environment, but saving millions of tax dollars each year,” Mayor Mike Spano said in a statement.
The tour will showcase several projects in the Yonkers downtown-waterfront area, including the largest solar rooftop array in New York at iPark, the newly daylighted Saw Mill River, mixed-use geothermal lofts at 66 Main St. and the new LED street light replacement project that will save the city an estimated $18 million over 10 years.
“Yonkers is truly becoming a green city with these five projects at its core as examples of energy efficiency, ecology and environmental education,” said City Council President Chuck Lesnick in a statement. “Through legislative action and executive orders, Yonkers is reducing its carbon footprint and saving money – and we encourage the private and not-for-profit sectors to do the same."
Registration for the event is free and includes a rooftop garden lunch. To register, please contact Brad Tito at (914) 377-6574 or email Brad.Tito@YonkersNY.gov.
