Officials in Nassau County announced that a business has been fined $25,000 for selling masks out of a warehouse on Old Country Road.
Nassau County Executive Laura Curran said, "if you are buying this or using this, if you are a healthcare worker or a grocery store worker and you are depending on this for your health and your safety, you need to know that it is a legit product."
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that there have been 1,200 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nassau County residents, bringing the total to 8,544, which resulted in 63 deaths. Curran said the 15 new deaths overnight were the most the county has seen in a single day.
The 11 men and four women who died were between 33 and 97 years old, Curran said.
In total, there have been 15,257 cases of COVID-19 reported on Long Island.
There were 9,298 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Long Island as the statewide total continued to climb to 75,795, the most in the nation. There have now been 1,550 COVID-19-related deaths in New York, up from 1,218 the previous day.
The number of cases in New York is nearly 50,000 more than the nearest state, New Jersey (16,636 cases), which is ahead of California (7,421), Michigan (6,508), Massachusetts (5,752), and Florida (5,694).
“These fake products have no place in the marketplace or on a site that consumers trust for everyday purchases,” New York Attorney General Letitia James said. “We’re demanding that scammers stop taking advantage of vulnerable and panicked consumers. My office will not hesitate to take action against all those who use the coronavirus as a get-rich-quick scheme at a consumer’s expense.”
