Bronx River Parkway Weekend Closures Begin Friday

YONKERS, N.Y. -- If you plan to head out shopping or on a trip, be aware that work begins tonight, Dec. 11, on the Bronx River Parkway, with sections of the northbound lanes closed for the weekend from Yonkers to White Plains.

Northbound sections of the Bronx River Parkway will closed over the weekend to repair drainage issues on the bridge.

The parkway will be closed between the Sprain Brook Parkway and Westchester County Center starting on at 10 p.m. Friday and continuing until 4 p.m. Sunday.

According to the Westchester County Department of Public Works and Transportation, the weekend night closure is necessary to continue to enhance the drainage system as part of the Crane Road Bridge replacement project.

There will be no access from the six-lane portion of the northbound Bronx River Parkway to the four-lane portion of the northbound Bronx River Parkway at the Sprain Brook Parkway. All traffic will be diverted onto the Sprain Brook Parkway and then Central Park Avenue to White Plains.

The northbound parkway will be accessible to local traffic at all times at the following locations (between the Sprain Brook Parkway and Harney Road):

  • Entrances from Paxton Avenue, Elm Street, Scarsdale Road, Thompson Street and Leeward Drive will be open.
  • All northbound traffic will be diverted at Harney Road to Scarsdale Avenue and East Parkway, re-entering the northbound parkway at Crane Road.
  • The northbound Bronx River Parkway will be open to traffic at Crane Road and all points north.
Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes. Numerous variable message signs will be used to alert motorists of the upcoming closures. For additional information, contact the county Department of Public Works and Transportation at 995-2555. Full details on this project are available at www.westchestergov.com/craneroadbridge
