There will be a wake service for Crimmins, the stepson of Yonkers Superintendent of Schools Michael Yazurlo – with calling hours between 2 and 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Westchester Funeral Home in Eastchester, with a funeral scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe.
Crimmins, 22, a 2012 graduate of Tuckahoe High School, and previously attended SUNY Albany. He was swimming with friends on Saturday morning off Mantoloking when he suffered from a medical condition that caused seizures, according to a spokesman from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s office.
According to investigator Al Della Fave’s report, Crimmins was “an avid surfer and lifeguard that suffered from a medical condition which caused seizures.” An autopsy determined that Crimmins died from drowning, citing idiopathic epileptic seizures contributing to the incident.
“John was tragically taken from my wife Nancy, her daughter Nicole and myself when he drowned off the New Jersey coast,” Yazurlo said in a statement following the news of his stepson’s passing. “Our hearts are heavy, we will miss John.”
As an avid surfer who loved the beach and was head lifeguard at Lake Isle Country Club in Eastchester for some time, Crimmins’ family has requested that any donations be made in his name to http://www.swimacrossamerica.org/site/PageServerhttp://www.swimacrossamerica.org/site/PageServer
