Luigi F. Mejabarahona, a Rye resident, was charged with second-degree criminal trespass following an incident at a multi-family residence on Purchase Street on Thursday, April 10, the City of Rye Police Department announced.

Officers responded to the scene around 1:15 p.m. for a report of trespassing. Upon arrival, they spoke with a 15-year-old girl, who told police that Mejabarahona had entered the apartment on multiple occasions while she was there alone. The girl confronted Mejabarahona, who then left the unit, police said.

Officers interviewed the teen in the presence of her mother and later took Mejabarahona into custody without incident.

He was brought to Rye Police Headquarters for processing, arraigned in Rye City Court, and released on his own recognizance. A protective order was issued to safeguard the minor, authorities said.

Mejabarahona is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday, April 15, at 9:00 a.m.
