This week, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano praised the efforts of the local Fire Department, Empress Ambulance and 60 Control, who teamed to helped a woman in need on the parkway.

According to Spano, when the firefighters arrived at approximately 2 p.m., the mother had just given birth to a baby girl with 60 Control dispatchers giving assistance to the father over the phone. Upon arrival, firefighters checked the baby’s vital signs, cut the umbilical cord - which was still attached to the mother - and kept all parties calm and warm in the winter weather.

Empress then transported the baby and her mother to Phelps Memorial Hospital for treatment. The Greenburgh Police and Fire Departments assisted in the delivery as well.

“I want to take this opportunity to recognize members of the Yonkers Fire Department -specifically members of Squad 11 and Engine 314, who - responded to a call of a woman in labor on the Sprain Brook Parkway on Thanksgiving Day,” Spano stated. “Congratulations to these fine firefighters, 60 Control dispatchers and Empress Ambulance personnel on a job well done. It was a great team effort.”
