Thousands of demonstrators flooded street corners, Congressional offices, and federal buildings across the U.S. on Saturday, April 5, in what organizers called a “national mass activation” against a growing threat to democracy and workers' rights.

Nearly 1,400 rallies were held coast to coast, part of a movement opposing what protestors describe as a “Trump-Musk billionaire takeover” and “the Republican assault on our freedoms and our communities.”

“Trump and Musk are attempting an illegal power grab,” the event flyer reads. “This is a crisis we must stop. Trump, Musk, and congressional Republicans are gutting services, raising prices, and racing toward slashing Medicaid, Social Security, and more — all for the benefit of their billionaire allies.”

The demonstrations aimed to draw attention to concerns about economic inequality, corporate influence in politics, and threats to federal safety net programs. Organizers say the fight is far from over.

In South Jersey, approximately 350 people, from Salem, Cape May, and Cumberland counties, gathered in Bridgeton.

"With Trump and congressional Republicans doubling down on their agenda to gut essential services, everyday voters are sending a clear message: Take your hands off our healthcare, our Social Security, our civil rights, our freedom, and our education to underscore the real-life consequences of these policies and show how our communities are fighting back," a flyer for the event said.

"People are organizing across Salem, Cumberland, and Cape May County communities, making it clear to the people who are supposed to represent them that elected officials need to stand with them."
