The incident occurred around 7 a.m. on Monday, April 7, at 1256 Saw Mill River Rd. in Yonkers, where Peterson Tool Rental is located at the base of a hillside. According to the Yonkers Fire Department, a boulder dislodged from the hill behind the property, striking the building and causing a significant collapse.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. Fire crews quickly secured the scene and conducted a thorough search, confirming that no one was inside at the time and that nearby homes and properties were not affected.

Hazardous materials units responded to contain a fuel spill caused by the damage. A 500-gallon heating oil tank inside the building was compromised in the collapse. Absorbent pads, booms, and sewer cap covers were deployed to prevent further spread of the oil.

As a result of the collapse and cleanup effort, Saw Mill River Road is closed in both directions between Tompkins and Rider Avenues until further notice.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes as the cleanup and investigation continue.
