Motorists traveling on the New England Thruway in Westchester can expect brief stoppages in traffic as crews begin a rock remediation project.

The New York State Thruway Authority announced a rock remediation safety project on the I-95 in Westchester, which will require brief traffic stops beginning today.

The rock remediation is part of the $135 million “Last Mile” infrastructure improvement project which focuses on the one-mile stretch from exit 22 (Port Chester-Rye-Midland Avenue) to the Connecticut state line.

During the remediation, there will be temporary traffic stops on I-95 for northbound and southbound travelers beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 16 in the vicinity of the Grace Church Street Bridge.

The brief stoppages are scheduled to take place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday on I-95, as well as the I-287 ramp to I-95.

New York State Police will perform the stops to allow construction work to be performed, with each day consisting of one or more traffic stoppages lasting approximately 20 minutes. The work is weather dependent and subject to change, the Thruway Authority noted.

The project is expected to last for several months. During the remediation project, motorists can expect delays in the area and have been advised to seek alternate routes, when possible.
