New Rochelle, Ursuline, Croton Top County Cheer

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Cheerleading teams from all over Westchester County and the surrounding area competed at the 63rd County Cheerleading Invitational Monday and Tuesday with teams from New Rochelle and the Ursuline Academy in New Rochelle taking home class championships at the County Center.

Decked out in Koala powder blue, the Ursuline team roused the crowd with super stunts and lifts and the energy to match its routine

“We were very energetic for sure,” Ursuline’s Aidan Daniels said before the scores had been tallied. “We put in a lot of work and work out a lot to stay ready physically. Cheerleaders are underestimated for their athletic ability. All these girls are so skilled. We just go hard for the whole 2 ½ minutes.”

New Rochelle won the Class A title and Croton topped Class C Monday while Ursuline won top honors in Class B Tuesday. The three Westchester teams then competed for the title of Grand Champion with teams from St. Catherine Academy (Bronx) and John Jay-East Fishkill, with St. Catherine winning the overall title.

Somers placed second in Class B competition and teams from Mamaroneck, Harrison, White Plains, Scarsdale, Maria Regina (Hartsdale) and Walter Panas showed their skills on the mat in front of a boisterous crowd that filled the upper seating the County Center.
