One of the first issues the board discussed was the approval of the proposed expansion of the White Plains Hospital Cancer Center.
The hospital announced plans in June to renovate the existing Dickstein Cancer Treatment Center and construct a new adjoining six-story building on the corner of Longview Avenue and East Post Road.
Mayor Thomas Roach said, "The hospital is a wonderful community partner. It has been a well-run hospital for many years. Not only will it continue to provide source of care, but a wonderful source of employment for quality employees.”
"We welcome these plans by White Plains Hospital," councilman John Kirkpatrick said.
The council also held a public hearing for the amendment of a plan to build a skilled nursing facility on Church Street to be known as the White Plains Institute for Rehabilitation and Healthcare.
The proposed amendment follows variances made by the Department of Health, reducing the original six floor building down to five, and reducing the beds from 179 to 160. Additionally, 49 parking spaces will be added.
Finally, the council also held three public hearings concurrently on the relocation and expansion of the Grace Church Community Center's Open Arms Men's Shelter, Samaritan Women's Shelter, and social services center.
The church plans to move its emergency services center to Martin Luther King Boulevard and install 19 beds. Additionally it plans to bring each of its centers up to life safety code.
