Police: Man Punches Victim, Breaks Cell Phone At 7-Eleven In Westchester

A man is facing charges after police say he punched a victim and broke a cell phone at a 7-Eleven in Northern Westchester.

Yorktown Police say they received a report of a physical altercation at the 7-Eleven at 1949 Commerce Street on Sunday, April 7 around 3:30 p.m.

Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Quameik Byrd of Yorktown, allegedly struck the victim with a closed fist and caused substantial pain, bruising and swelling, police said.

According to police, Byrd also threw and broke the victim’s cell phone, valued at $1,000.

Officers say they arrested Byrd on Crompond Road around 4:15 p.m. He was transported to Yorktown Police Headquarters for processing and charged with third-degree assault, a Class A misdemeanor, and third-degree criminal mischief, a Class E felony.

Byrd was arraigned in the Town of Yorktown Justice Court, where Judge Raniolo set a $3,500 bail or $1,500 cash and issued a Temporary Order of Protection on behalf of the victim.

Byrd was unable to post bond and remanded to Westchester County Department of Corrections. He is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on Thursday, April 11.
