Troopers received a complaint of fraud from an elderly victim on Friday, March 22.

An investigation found three checks totaling $11,000 in US currency were fraudulently withdrawn from her account, state police said.

Further investigation found the checks were stolen by 23-year-old Andre Aguilar of Bedford Hills, who then forged the victim’s signature, and deposited the money into his own checking accounts, according to police. Aguilar had recently been employed by the victim, a resident of Somers, as a paid driver, police said.

Aguilar was charged on Sunday, March 24 with first-degree forgery (a Class C felony), first-degree identity theft and third-degree grand larceny (both Class D felonies), and petit larceny, a Class A misdemeanor.

Aguilar was arraigned in the Town of Somers Court, and released on his own recognizance. Aguilar is next scheduled to appear before the court on Monday, March 25.
