ALBANY, N.Y. -- Former Assemblyman Vito Lopez of Brooklyn, once an influential politician who was later brought down by sexual harassment accusations, died Monday night at age 74, according to a report in nystateofpolitics.com.
Lopez, who had suffered from cancer, was first elected to the Assembly in 1985 and became chairman of the Housing Committee, nystateofpolitics reported.
He resigned in 2013 after a state ethics panel ruled that he had harassed members of his staff and violated a state law governing state officers, according to nystateofpolitics.com.
